Laptop Magazine have published a review of the Gateway ID49C07u affordable notebook. 'Both the lid and the deck of the ID49C07u is an aluminum alloy that not only gives the system a premium look, but will better protect it from occasional bumps. The bezel is a matte black, and, like the rest of the exterior, does not show fingerprints. The ID is a relatively sleek 13.5 x 9.6 x 0.9-1 inches, and at 4.8 pounds, is slightly lighter than the Dell Inspiron 14R (5 pounds) and the Toshiba Satellite E205 (5.2 pounds). The ID's keyboard uses the same FineTip design that's now ubiquitous on all Acer and Gateway notebooks.'

A review of the Gateway NV7901u notebook has been posted over at MobileTechReview. 'The Gateway NV7901u comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Microsoft Works 9. Gateway includes its own Recovery Management software and back up software as well as a webcam tool and Launch Manager. An MS Office 2007 60-day trial software and Norton Internet Security 2010 60-day trial are also onboard. Gateway has been using the same notebook design on all its laptop lines except the very large P series notebooks. The shiny cover with chromed edges worked on the smaller Gateway LT2118u netbook and it works well here on the NV79 series. The brushed chrome edging and hinge are eye-catching, and the Gateway badge decorates the shiny patterned cover.'

TweakTown have published their review of the Gateway NV7901u 17.3-inch multimedia notebook. 'The keyboard of the Gateway NV7901u is large and has well spaced keys. The keys are actually a bit larger than the keys on the keyboard I type on with my desktop PC. The keyboard has a full number pad on the right side and offers great typing feel. The notebook also has media control keys built-in as well. The track pad is exactly what you expect from a track pad. It's accurate and worked without any issues.'

TweakTown have published a review of the Gateway EC14D07u 11.6-inch ultraportable. 'The Gateway EC14D07u is a rarity in the ultraportable world today in that Gateway crams an optical drive into the machine. The drive is a DVD player and can burn both CDs and DVDs if needed as well. Typically, you don't get an optical drive in this class and this is what makes the Gateway EC14D07u really stand out in a crowded market. The design of the Gateway EC14D07u is attractive, but it's getting old after seeing so many Gateway machines that look just like the EC14D07u. The glossy black lid of my test unit will be prone to scratches and smudges. Under the lid is a glossy LCD with HD resolution that works very well for playing movies and online video.'

Gateway-EC14D07u-LaptopMag.jpg

Laptop Magazine have published a review of the Gateway EC14D07u ultraportable. 'Measuring 11.5 x 8.3 x 1.2 inches, the EC14D07u has a similar footprint to the EC1430u but tacks on a few ounces to accommodate the DVD drive. The earlier Gateway model weighed 3.2 pounds, compared to the newer machine's 3.6 pounds. Nevertheless, we found the EC14D07U easy to carry. Like its predecessor, this ultraportable sports a keyboard that's flat with a slight separation between the keys. The difference between the EC14D07u and Acer machines such as the Aspire 1410 and Aspire Timeline 1810T is that it uses a thinner font and that Gateway positions the letters in the middle of the keys instead of flush left. We found the keyboard to be plenty large for rapid and accurate typing, and appreciated the springy feedback.'

Geek.com have published their "Quick review" of the Gateway EC1430u notebook. 'The CULV, or affordable ultraportable, market has been tough to figure out, especially in sizes where the computers seem a lot like big netbooks. The EC1430u isn't a netbook though: it has a dual-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and 320GB of storage. It also sells for $550, much more than even a premium netbook. Despite what it does to separate it from the netbooks, it still runs integrated graphics, presenting a sticking point for anyone interested in HD video playback and who might also be considering something like the HP dm3z.'

Gateway-NV5214u.jpg

A review of the Gateway NV5214u multimedia notebook has been posted over at TweakTown.com. 'The big glossy screen is good for multimedia duties, but glare is an issue in any room with ambient light. I didn't find the screen to be as crisp or clear color wise as the MSI U210 that I reviewed recently, which is surprising considering that the NV52 is a multimedia notebook. Colors were decent and there were no problems with video tearing or smearing. The keyboard is huge after reviewing so many netbooks. The keys are larger than the keys on my desktop keyboard and the NV52 has a full number pad as well. All of the keys are where they should be and have good travel and nice tactile feel. This keyboard is built for use and it shows.
