MSI GE620 Review - Trusted Reviews

MSI-GE620-Trusted-Reviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the MSI GE620 gaming laptop. 'The GE620 does demand that you care about performance, though, because its design won't get many of you excited. Both the inside and outside are finished in plastic dressed up to look like bronze-brown brushed metal. It doesn't look awful, but is the sort of laptop that gets certain Apple fans wondering why anyone would ever buy a PC. However, the keyboard area is pretty fingerprint-resistant - at least it won't become an expensive set of greasy smudges within five minutes of firing-up World of Warcraft. It also doesn't have any too-loud signposts of its gaming style. There are red markers on the direction keys and the WASD keys - which will already be too much for some - but there are no LEDs hiding behind grills or cooling vents, and no OTT Alienware-style contours, ridges or extraterrestrial heads tacked-on.'

MSI FX720 Review - Tech Radar

MSI-FX720-Tech-Radar.jpg

Tech Radar have published a review of the MSI FX720 laptop. 'This laptop might be half the cost of its competitors, but it also lacks the slick and attractive design that most multimedia laptops boast. While the XPS 15z sports a beautiful brushed metal finish, the FX720 makes do with a black plastic frame. It isn't exactly ugly, but it doesn't give us those 'must have' vibes. The body doesn't feel too solid either. It won't break or fall apart in your hands, but some areas, such as the palmrests, do flex under pressure. With a weight of 3kg it can be carried around when needed, although we wouldn't drag it out on the daily commute. It's best used as a home machine that can be shifted between rooms.'

MSI GT680 Review - Trusted Reviews

MSI-GT680-Trusted-Reviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the MSI GT680 laptop. 'Let's start off with the design. Visually, it's certainly a far more modest and attractive look overall. Unfortunately, it's not all good news. The lid has gone from being a durable and handsome brushed metal to moulded glossy black plastic. Not only does this act as a fingerprint and dust magnet, but it doesn't feel as solid and there's serious flex near the hinge (though keep in mind that we are looking at an early sample, so hopefully this will be improved on retail models). Build quality of the base is far better than that found on the lid, though there's still a little more flex than we would like near the hinge. Inside, the semi-matte screen-bezel of the previous design is replaced by a glossy surround with a matt outer edge, where we would have preferred this the other way around. Like the lid, the palm-rest is now also glossy plastic rather than metal, though at least a prominent honeycomb pattern disguises smudges.'

MSI GX640-098US Review - PC World

MSI-GX640-098US-PC-World.jpg

PC World have published a review of the MSI GX640-098US laptop. 'The MSI GX640-098US features a black, brushed-aluminum design with red accents. The cover is fairly simple, with a silver, mirrored MSI logo in the center and a thin red plastic strip at the bottom being the only details. The inside has a red plastic border around the keyboard and touchpad, plus a futuristic-looking red-and-black strip of touch-sensitive buttons above the keyboard. The buttons include rewind, stop, pause/play, and fast-forward media buttons, as well as an 'Eco' button (for cycling through a variety of modes, including gaming mode and office mode), a 'Cinema Pro' button, a Webcam button, a Bluetooth button, a Wi-Fi button, and a programmable button.'

MSI CX600 Review - CNET UK

MSI-CX600-CNET-UK.jpg

CNET UK have published their review of the MSI CX600 laptop. 'The CX600 is a fairly large device, measuring 374 by 30 by 247mm, and weighing 2.5kg. That, you'd presume, would give it plenty of room to accommodate all the ports one could wish for. Sadly, this isn't the case. The CX600 has a paltry three USB ports -- the same as you'd get on a netbook -- and, despite its fancy graphics card, lacks an HDMI output. Instead, users have to put up with a D-Sub VGA output, which is a crying shame. There's absolutely no way of outputting the video signal digitally to an external display.'

MSI X-Slim X400 Review - CNET ASIA

MSI-X-Slim-X400-CNETASIA.jpg

CNET Asia have published a review of the MSI X-Slim X400 (Core 2 Duo U2300 Processor 1.3GHz, 2GB RAM) laptop. 'The MSI X-Slim X400 comes in three color schemes--white with blue trimming and black with either silver or gold lines. Though it does not use metal in its chassis, the plastic body feels well-made and solid enough for daily use. This material probably contributes to its light 1.5kg heft, even as of its competitors weigh around 1.8kg. The 24.5mm profile makes this MSI one of the sleekest 14-inch machines in the market. The keyboard uses flat keys which are spaced closely together. According to MSI, this design is ergonomic and reduces stress on the fingers. However, we found the comfort of this setup to be very subjective and touch typists may need a little time to get used to the keyboard.'

MSI-X-Slim-X600-TrustedReviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published their review of the MSI X-Slim X600 - 15.6in CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) laptop. 'You get an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9600 CPU running at 1.6GHz with 3MB L2 Cache, a plentiful 4GB of RAM and a massive 500GB hard drive. There's no optical drive, though, which to us is just silly. At the very least you ought to get an external drive, but instead MSI offers a serviceable, plain carry bag, which while nice is about half as useful. Wireless-N Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth round-off the otherwise competent feature set, while a two year warranty is very welcome, but MSI's obsession with the X-Slim aesthetic ultimately comes at the expense of practicality.'

MSI X-Slim X600 Review - Register Hardware

By Admin on October 30, 2009 12:10 AM | No Comments

MSI X-Slim-X600.jpg

The Register Hardware have published a review of the MSI X-Slim X600 laptop. 'On the left, you'll find two video outputs in the form of HDMI and VGA ports, along with Gigabit Lan and a combined eSATA/USB port. Over on the right, you get two more USB ports, audio in and out sockets, plus an SD/MMC card slot. The power socket is also on the right. There are no ports on the front or rear of the chassis, nor is there room for an Expresscard slot. The 15.6in display features a glossy coating and runs off a 16:9 native resolution of 1366 x 768. Like the vast majority of laptop displays these days, it's LED backlit. It's also impressively bright, but we had to chuckle when, on the specification label on the box, we noticed it's listed as "15.6 WXGA (Glare Type)".'
