Computer Maintenance
Before you open that packaging on your new PC or Mac there are some practical measures you should consider to ensure your machine remains as clean as possible when and after you start to use it. Dust and grime can become pretty difficult to remove after a prolonged period of without regular maintenance.
How to Keep your computer dirt-free
1. Assemble a computer cleaning kit: If you desire you can purchase a comprehensive computer tool kit or you can assemble your own from simple materials. A basic cleaning kit should include a bottle of alcohol, cotton swabs, microfiber cloth, a small screwdriver and an Air Duster.
2. Schedule regular maintenance (cleaning) of your machine.
3. Ensure you computer is unplugged when you are cleaning it.
4. Do not pour alcohol or any liquid onto the computer.
5. Moisten the cleaning cloth with the alcohol or cleaning liquid of choice and gently rub the outer casing of the machine. Regular cleaning should ensure there is little buildup thus not necessitating any undue pressurized rubbing.
6. Lightly wipe the screen/monitor with one hand while supporting the screen (in the case of laptops) with the other.
7. Never pour anything onto the keyboard. Wipe the keys on the keyboard with caution as some laptops have some flimsy construction on them.
8. Use cotton swabs to clean in between keys and along grooves.
9. Wrap the cleaning cloth around the tip of the small screwdriver to clean along the hinge of your laptop.
10. There should no need to stroke your computer with any other cloth to remove dust. Keep an Air Duster.handy for this purpose.
Computers in use are said to be some of the most common locations for dirt and grime in the home. With routine maintenance you can ensure your machine remain as clean as possible for the duration of its working life.
